The Sierra Nevada mountain range forms the eastern backbone of the state of California and is perhaps the youngest major range in the United States.
Coming into existence by way of of volcanic rock erosion somewhere between 5-20 million years ago, the range is still forming today via tectonic plate shift. Home to three bodacious national parks, some of the gnarliest terrain the country has to offer and the largest tree in the world (General Sherman), if you haven't visited yet you're seriously missing out.
